BIORECOS

New sustainable processes to enhance agroforestry biomass.

Description

The BIORECOS Project aims the design and construction of a modular demonstration plant that allows, through pyrolysis, the production of charcoal and / or activated charcoal, as well as the generation of electricity.
In order to achieve this objective, both laboratory and pilot plant tests will be carried out with the different raw materials.

The compatibility between the production of of good quality charcoal and/or activated charcoal, and the generation of a process gas of high-energy content that can be used to generate electrical and thermal energy will be studied.

Objectives

  • To determine the optimal conditions of carbonization-activation of the diverse raw materials with air, CO2 or water vapour.
  • To characterize the chemical and porous structure of the charcoal obtained.
  • To study the possibility of pelletizing the activated charcoal produced.
  • To characterize and clean the gas produced for energy use.

Actions

1:Raw materials characterization and pre-treatment.
2: Pyrolysis tests.
3: Production and characterization of charcoal and activated charcoal.
4: Pelletization of activated charcoal.
5: Analysis and treatment of gases.
6: Design, construction and commissioning of the prototype plant.

Expected results

  • Raw materials characterization.
  • Pyrolysis process characterization at laboratory and pilot plant level.
  • Design, construction and commissioning of a modular demonstration plant for the production of charcoal and/or activated charcoal, as well as for the generation of electrical energy.
