NATUR-W

Nature-based Urban Regeneration through Water: Integrating the water cycle in urban renaturalization

Description

NatUR-W addresses urban challenges tied to climate change, extreme heat, water scarcity and energy poverty in Lorca, Murcia. It deploys innovative Nature-based Solutions (NbS) integrating the natural water cycle to improve quality of life, create green spaces, and ensure self-sustainability. The key components include green walls using recycled materials and the renaturalization of public areas. Engagement, governance and replication are promoted through training, crowdfunding, and a stakeholders engagement. The project fosters urban regeneration and economic development.

    Objectives

      • Co-design, implement and validate a NatUR-W Plan (Nature-based Urban regeneration Plan).
      • Establish a participatory plan for a sustainable and integrated regeneration urban model.
      • Ensure the replication and transferability of the main outputs and experience of NatUR-W.

    Actions

    • Design the evaluation framework of the actions implemented in the project.
    • Measurement of environmental indicators on installed NBS.
    • Evaluation of results and conclusions.
    • Life Cycle Analysis of the installed Solutions.

    Expected Results

    • Conclusions on the performance of the NBS in terms of different environmental variables.
    • Effective methodologies in the monitoring of variables.
    • Development of multi-criteria evaluations for measuring environmental variables.

    R&D Line

    • Research on techniques and technologies of renaturalization of industrail and domestic spaces (inside and outside).
