CARTIF Projects

TI-REDI

Integrated technologies for waste recovery and industrial decarbonization

Description

The TI-REDI project will provide CARTIF with advanced infrastructure for the comprehensive treatment and recovery of heterogeneous waste. It promotes the optimization of biological and thermochemical processes, the production of renewable gases (biogas, biomethane, syngas, and hydrogen), and CO₂ capture and management. It will enable the characterization of organic and plastic waste, the evaluation of its energy potential, and the development of innovative solutions that can be transferred to industry, promoting the circular economy and decarbonization.

Objectives

  • Advanced characterization of different types of waste streams: organic, plastic, and gaseous, using experimental methodologies to determine their recovery potential.
  • Optimization of biological and thermochemical waste conversion processes aimed at producing renewable gases (biogas, biomethane, syngas, and renewable hydrogen).
  • Capture, storage, and management of CO₂ from waste recovery, exploring its use in chemical synthesis, biotechnology, and methanation processes.
  • Generation of technological knowledge and development of innovative solutions transferable to companies.
  • Promotion of sustainable industrial transition, contributing to the reduction of emissions, the closure of material cycles, and the creation of new business opportunities in emerging sectors.

Activities

  • Recovery of organic waste/high-load wastewater.
  • Nutrient recycling: closing the loop.
  • Recovery of plastic waste.
  • Generation and use of biogas, biomethane, and syngas.
  • Comprehensive municipal waste management.

Expected Results

  • Methodology for accessing the infrastructure of external user entities.
  • Knowledge dissemination.
  • Knowledge transfer.
