FoSSIS3

Spatial solar irradiance forecast and 3D support for urban areas

Description

The objective of FoSSIS3 project is to develop and operational platform based on artificial intelligence to support decision-making in the energy planning process, through the characterization and estimation of the solar resources, and the development of analytics that support the strategy to improve the energy behaviour of the building sector. To this end, urban areas that require energy regeneration and with a high potential for solar generation will be identified, proposing strategies and scenarios for the integration of renewables helping to reduce the energy needs of the building.

    Objectives

      • Development of algorithms for energy estimation and analysis methids that support strategies to improve the energy behavior of the building sector.
      • Optimize the techniques of transferring models of building structures to the mapping environment, and storing the geometry of the building together with its structural properties, for the creation of a 3D city model.
      • Development of new modeling solutions based on the CityGML data format, which allows the calculation of incident solar radiation values on any of the building´s surfaces, as well as predictions of future solar potential.
      • An interface that allows the visualization of solar radiation values on the map at the residential level, optimized for a web environment with flexible resource consumption based on the needs of the end user.

    Actions

    • Visualization platform to analyze solar production calculations and evaluation of integration of renewable scenarios.
    • Generation of a data model that alllows enriching the 3D model of the city,
    • Implementation of scenarios and strategies that improve decision-making and contribute to energy savings.
    • Development of a decision-making support system that allows its integration as a calculation engine of the platform.
    • Visualization platfomr to analyze solar production calculations and evaluation of integration of renewable scenarios.

    Expected Results

    • Solar thermal and photovoltaic potential estimation engine at building level.
    • Decision support system.
    • Platform for solar production visualization and evaluation of integration of renewable scenarios.

    R&D Line

    • Energy audits and improvement studies in buildings and urban infrastructures.
