StarConnexion

Application of Artificial Intelligence in quality management in long steel mills

Description

StarConnexion aims to lay the scientific and technological foundations for the application of Artificial Intelligence in quality management in long steel mills based on all possible variables that affect the final quality of the product.

Decisions affecting product quality are usually taken by expert personnel who have the necessary knowledge and experience to make operational decisions in the area of knowledge of the department for which they are responsible.

StarConnexion is going to circumscribe this research to 4 experts: Steel, Logistics, Rolling mill and Commercial (ALTC), incorporating Artificial Intelligence techniques to the decision making in the industry, in the same way that these experts usually make them.

Objectives

    • Integration of data from a wide range of steel mills.
    • Exploration of the most appropriate artificial intelligence techniques for filtering events to transform sensor data into messages.
    • Definition of an ontology to gather the knowledge of the experts and the interdepartmental decisions taken.
    • Artificial intelligence techniques through the analysis of decision making and ontological rules of human experts.

Actions

  • Collection of raw factory data and ontological rules from experts: both from sensors and from the actions performed by the experts.
  • Knowledge extraction from sensors and experts: sequences of events from which data will be obtained for high-level training.
  • Knowledge inference through deep neural networks: To extract knowledge and make better decisions and earlier.
  • Simulation and analysis of results: To analyse the behaviour of the developed intelligent systems by using real plant data and simulation.

Expected Results

  • Automation of the extraction of meaningful production data in long steel mills based on ontological knowledge.
  • Incorporation of Artificial Intelligence for expert decision making.
  • Globalised solution that optimises the operation of all the departments in the plant, beyond the objectives of the expert in each department.

NUMASTA

NUMASTA allows the development of a new generation of FRP sandwich panels for its application in the wastewater treatment sector. The distinguishing characteristic is presented in its core, based on a polyurethane foam, manufactured using formulations designed “à la carte” through a manufacturing process in a single stage where the curing process of the leathers and the foaming of the core take place in a synchronous
