PROCTWIN

Integrated modelling for sustainable and optimized steel manufacturing processes

Description

ProcTwin aims to develop a demonstration platform to predict and optimise the use of multiple stages in steelmaking. The methodology integrates numerical simulation, advanced sensors and distributed machine learning to optimise energy efficiency and product quality. The methodology will be applied in two industrial use cases: Celsa (Spain) and SSAB (Sweden), contributing to the reduction of the carbon footprint in steel production through innovative digital tools.

Objectives

  • Optimisation of steelmaking processes by developing a demonstration platform to predict and visualise the best use of multiple process steps.
  • Integration of advanced numerical modelling and distributed machine learning to capture interactions and relationships between processing stations and improve decision making.
  • Improving energy efficiency and sustainability in steel production by optimising energy consumption and reducing carbon footprint.
  • Development of advanced sensors and digital tools for the collection, integration and secure analysis of industrial data in real time.
  • Industrial validation in two real use cases (Celsa, Spain and SSAB, Sweden) to demonstrate the applicability and benefits of the solution in real production environments.

Actions

    • Integration of advanced sensors and industrial data into the project’s digital platform to improve decision-making.
    • Development and application of algorithms to improve product quality.
    • Validation of the platform in real industrial environments, ensuring its applicability in the use cases of Celsa (Spain) and SSAB (Sweden).

Expected Results

  • Successful integration of advanced sensors and industrial data into the digital platform, enabling real-time monitoring and data-driven decision making.

R&D Line

  • Development of new solutions in artificial vision for quality control in industry based on Deep Learning.
