LIFE VALPORC

Sustainable alternative to the management of pig carcasses and manure

Description

Current processes to manage animal by-products from the pig sector, specially animal carcasses and manure, involve a serious environmental problem, as they represent high amounts and they are not valorized since they are mostly disposed in landills or incinerated.

The goal of the LIFE + VALPORC is to demonstrate a sustainable alternative to the management of pig carcasses and manure, focusing on the environmental problems derived from its current management and valorizing these wastes by transforming them into biofuels (biogas and biodiesel) and organic fertilizers, with the corresponding environmental and socio-economic added value.

Objectives

  • Treatment of pig carcasses for efficient meal and fat production.
  • Production of biodiesel from category 2 animal fats, by cavitation technology.
  • Use of meat and category 2 bone meal and glycerin as new substrates for biogas production by their co-digestion with pig manure.
  • Implementation of ultrasonic technology, to improve anaerobic digestion.
  • Obtaining a high quality organic fertilizer.

Actions

  • A. Preparatory actions.
  • B. Implementation actions.
  • C. Monitoring of the impact of the project actions.
  • D. Communication and dissemination actions.
  • E. Project management and monitoring of the project progress.

Expected results

  • Design and construction of a prototype for the treatment of 1 t/day of pig carcasses to optimize the meal and fat production process and promote the later valorization of these by-products.
  • Adaptation of a biogas pilot plant with the integration of an ultrasonic pretreatment.
  • Design and construction of a biodiesel production prototype of 100 l/h based on cavitation technology, for the the production of biodiesel from animal fats from category 2.

BATERURGIA

BATERURGIA

BATERURGIA “research into advanced recycling technologies for obtaining strategic metals from EV batteries”, aims to respond to the challenges posed by the recycling of LIBs and provide knowledge to solve the problems arising from the recovery and selective separation of critical metals to facilitate their use in the manufacture of new batteries or to replace conventional raw materials and introduce them into other production sectors as alternative raw materials.

FRONTSH1P

Frontsh1p will contribute to further the green transition in the Polish region of Lódzkie. A region that on the one hand, traditionally heavily relies on coal extraction, and on the other hand, has pioneered circular (bio)economy since the early 2000s. The region has always been in the forefront of innovation and has become one of the leading regions in the field of circular economy.
